Proofreading

For texts that will be published (e.g. books, articles or reports), proofreading is the final stage of the editing process before publication. The job of the proofreader is to tidy up and polish the text, correcting typos, layout problems or other errors or inconsistencies missed at the line editing or copyediting stages, or introduced at the typesetting stage. For typeset texts I will work with page proofs, comparing them where appropriate with copyedited text. In cases of work that is being prepared for submission rather than publication (e.g., an article or book to be submitted to a journal, publisher or agent), I will work with the final version in Word.

Please note that proofreading is not the same as stylistic editing or copyediting. If a text requires substantial changes to grammar, sentence structure, the proper use of punctuation, and/or correct referencing and bibliographical formatting, it will need stylistic editing or copyediting, or something between, known as a proof-edit. Please contact me for details.

Please return to the Editing main page for information on rates.
